In honour of the late Cass Jones, a passionate member of the Ausmumpreneur community, Women’s Business School and Lovelly Communications have joined forces to offer this unique scholarship to a person with a disability or chronic illness.

Cass Jones was the founder of Gentlemen Jones, a barber shop in Townsville, Queensland. Her successful business not only provided a brilliant service to their loyal customers, but it also offered people with a disability the opportunity to gain skills and employment through her expert training.

She had big dreams and plans, especially after attending the Ausmumpreneur Awards and Retreat in November 2021 where she was a stand out to all attendees. Coming into the event unsure, unconfident and feeling a bit out of place, to building beautiful connections with so many of the women in attendance and leaving a lasting impression. Her acceptance speech received a standing ovation as she shared her unique work and life experience and her hopes for the future.

Sadly in January 2022, Cassandra Jones passed away after suffering from multiple illnesses. She is gone far too soon, however her legacy will live on. Cass had approached Ausmumpreneur with the idea of a scholarship and had been looking to raise her own profile with Lovelly Communications. So together, we are teaming up to give other women the opportunity to gain skills, learn from experts and build their brand through the Cass Jones Overcoming the Odds Scholarship.

‘When I began to embark on the journey to start my own business I was so overwhelmed with where to begin. There is so much information out there to help but how do I find the time to research while looking after 2 kids and still working. When I came across a Facebook ad introducing the Women’s Business School I had a ”oh my” moment. When I looked further into it I could not believe what the course described, its values and its modules. I was so excited because it had a module that taught you ”Time Management” around your business and your family. That’s when I had another moment and realised that this was meant to be. I have no regrets and I have learnt all the essential key components to setting up, running and sustaining my business. The support factor astounds me and I’ve made life long friends along the way too. This is not only a school it is a community, one that understands you not only as a student but as a mother, wife and entrepreneur’. Thank you for supporting me and showing me the skills to go one step further and be a entrepreneur’.

Statistics show that women, particularly women from indigenous and multicultural backgrounds, and those based in rural, regional and remote locations, don’t participate in incubators and accelerators at the same rates as men.

We are committed to ensuring that women from a diverse range of backgrounds have access to world-class education, peer connectivity, mentoring and support in a professionally challenging but safe and welcoming environment. The Women’s Business School is committed to having an impact on diversity in entrepreneurship through leadership on this important issue and actively providing the right conditions, support and opportunities for all women to succeed and reach their full potential.
